Here are some pictures of the kids giving their Poultry Demonstrations. The birds are bantam show birds. We went with banties this year, because the smaller size makes it easier for the children to handle them.

Black Bearded Silkie

Dark Brahma

Buff Brahma
And, yes, I always have to write what breed it is. It’s my law.
I was originally told the Dark Brahma was a Cochin. So in previous posts its listed as a Cochin.

1 new chick so far. I hear lots of cheaping coming from under those hens.
In memory of Duncan, the rooster, who died shortly after the hens started sitting.

The ducks are getting big. They are easily 4 times the size of the Turkeys which I got at the same time. I think they are competitive with the Cornish Cross, but I have not yet looked up the feed to meat ratio.

I think the white one may be a drake, but I’m not sure what drake behavior looks like.
The ducks can not tolerate being separated, even for a few minutes. It’s very traumatic. And they do not under any circumstances socialize with chickens.

One of the cherry bushes I planted last year has 5 buds. It’s so small, I’m surprised it has any.

I planted both Black Currants and Jostaberries last year. I’m guessing this is a Jostaberry flower but I’m not sure.

And this would be Black Currant if my original guess was correct.

This is the first chick that hatched.

These are the first 3. Another egg has hatched since.
The chickens were golden sex links. So the new chicks are basically muts. I also have black sex links so those would be black sex links crossed with golden sex link. Basically a 4 breed mix.

6 Turkeys

Stockings

Dickie

Stripe
I didn’t get very many pictures of the Turkeys because they are not as novel to us. We had so much fun observing the ducklings after having only chickens and Turkeys for 3 years. The ducks are about 3 days older than the Turkeys. They also are more active. It’s rather funny because Turkeys are sleepy and slow and the ducks are very lively. The ducklings play in the water with their bills. They also get their feet and tummies in the water. I can’t wait to set up a little swimming dish.
